I came across these stunning illustrations from a Japanese artist named Hakuchi. You can see him at work in the video below, and some examples of his work after the fold.

On November 6th I was chosen by Say Anything to photograph their concert at Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel in Providence, RI. A big thank you to all the guy who I got to meet after the show, and especially to Jacob Turner for emailing back and fourth with me during the show! They absolutely killed their set, it was one of the best shows I have ever been to at Lupo’s. I got to meet most of the guys afterward, and they were all kind enough to sign a few T-Shirts for me and my friends. Definitely an awesome group of guys.
So I don’t know how many of you have seen the previews for the new movie Sucker Punch:
But it looks pretty bomb if you are a twenty-something Sci-Fi (or SF as they like to call it in the ‘biz’) and Fantasy nerd like I am. Storyline aside this movie looks like pure visual orgasm for 2 hours. It stars Emily Browning (Ghost Ship, Lemony Snickets Series of Unfortunate Events, etc.), who is joined by 5 other equally gorgeous women: Abbie Cornish, Jena Malone, Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Chung, and Carla Gugino, among others. It is directed by Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen, Dawn of the Dead) Which is just further reinforcement that this movie will be visually amazing.
All of that aside, they have released a kick-ass series of posters for this movie, which follow:
From CSS3Wizardry
“There, I said it. Microsoft has been bombarding the media with claims about how much better IE9 is than all the other browsers, more HTML5 and CSS3 compliant than any other browser that ever existing and ever will. It’s the only browser that passes all the tests they made up. And, Microsoft has finally implemented the CSS3 selectors that were implemented by other browsers back in, what? 2003? Because Microsoft has updated IE to support CSS3 selectors and rounded corners, they want us to believe that somehow IE9 magically supports the whole slew of CSS3 visual styling. I’m afraid it doesn’t. As a matter of fact, IE9′s support for CSS3 visual styling is so poor that the results are shocking. Firefox, Chrome and Safari can render graphically rich interfaces using the sophisticated features of CSS3. IE9 does, well, rounded corners. That’s why I’m saying: IE9 is the IE6 of CSS3. Repeat that a few times until it sinks in because if you do Web development, you’re going to have to deal with it.”
Well, It appears that despite all of Microsoft’s bragging IE9 will be another frustrating platform for web designers. I cannot tell you how many hours I have spent tweaking code to make it display correctly in legacy versions of Internet Explorer, and seething this post just adds another nail in the coffin of IE for me.
Thanks to the guys over at Photo Focus for pointing this one out. Apparently with the current Terms of Service from Twitter, they have the right to sell/distribute any photo ever posted to Twitter at their discretion. While this may not mean much for most people, for any aspiring or professional photographer this could be a big deal.
Where it comes into play for the average person – say you catch some crazy car crash on your cell phone camera, or a bank robbery in progress, and are able to get pictures of it in progress. To show your friends the amazing event you just witnessed, you post it to your Twitter. Because of your good luck, you are the first person or even ONLY person to get pictures of the event, which news outlets around your area are dying to get their hands on. Twitter can sell your photos to them without consent, or even notifying you.
According to their TOS:
“You agree that this license includes the right for Twitter to make such Content available to other companies, organizations or individuals who partner with Twitter for the syndication, broadcast, distribution or publication of such Content on other media and services, subject to our terms and conditions for such Content use.”
As always, be aware of what you put on the internet. People complain about their privacy being breached via Facebook security leaks, or problems in their code, but it comes down to this. If you do not want people to see something DO NOT PUT IT ON THE INTERNET. It isn’t Facebook, or Twitter’s job to ensure your photos/posts are kept private – this is just an added feature to ensure that users keep coming back to their site to get them more ad revenue. They don’t owe you anything for being a loyal user, they have millions and millions of others.

Pretty top-notch from 25 years ago.
Brilliant Kodak commercial from 2005. It’s touching, and makes me extremely proud to be a part of the photographic industry, as are you if you’ve ever picked up a camera. Photography lets us freeze moments in time that will live forever.
I know I havent posted in awhile, so instead of posting just one cool thing, I’m putting up a collection of awesome product/industrial designs I recently have come across.

This is an awesome desk that folds up on your wall to save space. Extremely handy in small apartments.

These are some very cool table candles (possibly citronella candles?) that use a lightbulb design for the fuel reservoir

Solar charging 4-port USB hub. The design of this is nice, but I mostly put it here because having a solar-charging USB hub seems necessary for any roadtrip/long travel/zombie apocalypse. I wonder how long it takes to charge something with just solar power, but still, i guess its better than nothing.
